Winnipeg, MB: The Gimli International Film Festival will screen the documentary The Day Iceland Stood Still at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights at 3:00 p.m. The film tells the story of Iceland’ s famous “Women’ s Day Off,” also known as the “Women’ s Strike,” on October 24, 1975, when 90 percent of the women of Iceland walked off the job and out of their homes, refusing to work, cook, or take care of the children. They brought their country to a standstill and catapulted Iceland towards becoming the “best place in the world to be a woman” today. Following the screening, director Pamela Hogan will be on hand for a question-and-answer period. The film is being presented by GIFF and The Mauro Family Fund in honour of International Women’ s Day. Admission is on a “pay what you can” basis in support of the festival. Seats are limited.
