Gimli, MB: Walk to the Rock, hosted by the New Iceland Heritage Museum and the Gimli Icelandic Canadian Society. The annual 3.5 km walk commemorates the arrival of the first Icelandic pioneers in New Iceland on October 21, 1875, when the first settlers landed at Willow Island. The tradition dates back to 1975, the centennial year of the arrival. Participants traditionally meet at the Gimli Waterfront Centre at noon and walk to Willow Island, site of the White Rock Monument
